Tourism & Mascot Award Winners 2003

TOURISM INDUSTRY EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR AWARDS Colorado Springs. CO – Colorado Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau presents annual Tourism Awards, December 3, 2003. Tourism Industry Achievement Award: Mary Lou Murphy, Garden of the Gods Campground. Winner Management Category: Bonnie Frum, Operations Manager, Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center. Runner-up Management Category: Jim Roberson, Chief Engineer, Cheyenne Mountain Resort. Winner Non-Management Category: Paul Brizal, bartender-lobby bar, Antler’s Adams Mark Hotel. Non-Management Runner-up: Vercy “Mac” McKinley, Bellman, Cheyenne Mountain Resort. Mascot of the Year: Chinook, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center. Mascot Runner-up: Prowler, Colorado College Tiger. Mascot 3rd Place: Oro & Nugget, Western Museum of Mining and Industry. Mascot 4th Place: Film Geek, LifeMessages, Inc. The Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau (CSCVB) present these special annual awards. They are designed to recognize leadership and motivational skills resulting in an organization’s delivery of outstanding customer service to visitors to the Pikes Peak region. They are given to one management and one non-management employee of a local hospitality-related business. Terry Sullivan, President and CEO of the CSCVB, at the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau's Annual Dinner presented the awards on December 3, 2003, at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort. Tourism Employee of the Year Awards, each company nominated one individual, per category with a letter detailing how the nominated employee meets the consideration set forth to receive the award. The Awards committee members considered first impressions, workplace knowledge, and attitude, knowledge of city, communication skills, leadership skills, community involvement and ability to serve as a role model and lead by example. New this year to the Awards categories was Tourism Industry Achievement Award in recognition for efforts made in the tourism industry. The Mascot of the Year Award was also new this year. This fun category brought out live animals, stuffed, costumed and animated. Votes for mascots were done online. Photos are available of winners for media.
